A FORMER beauty queen injured in a near-fatal 12ft fall has survived after part of her skull was sewn in her stomach while she recovered from a serious head injury.

Jamie Hilton, 36, a former winner of Miss Idaho in 2009, had a quarter of her skull placed in her stomach for six weeks.

By placing it in her stomach, doctors were able to keep the bone sterile and nourished before it was re-attached to her head, The Deseret News reports.

Mrs Hilton told the NBC Today show: "I remember lifting the gown, looking down and seeing this bulge in stomach, and thinking, "Is this real?""
